Basic Skills Tests in Reading, Writing, and Math - Must be taken and successfully completed prior to filing an application to the Elementary Teacher Education Program. Applications for the program are accepted during the months of September for the following Winter Semester and January for the following Fall Semester. Please Note: the MTTC Basic Skills Test is now called the MTTC Professional Readiness Examination.
Elementary Education - It is strongly recommended that the MTTC test in Elementary Education be taken during the semester of student teaching but not any earlier than the end of the third semester of professional studies. Elementary Special Education majors should take upon successful completion of third semester studies and the successful completion of advanced methods in the declared endorsement area.
Subject Area Minors - Candidates who want to teach in one or both of their subject area minors in grades 6-8 must successfully complete the MTTC in their subject area minor(s). It is highly recommended that the test(s) be taken upon successful completion of all courses required for the minor(s). Early Childhood minors should see their faculty adviser before registering for the MTTC Early Childhood test.
