SVSU offers elementary and secondary teacher education programs for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree or higher and want to obtain their license to teach in Michigan. Admission to these programs is coordinated through the Office of Admissions & Certification in the College of Education.
If you are considering a career in teaching, we invite you to attend a Teacher Certification Seminar. These seminars are designed to explain State of Michigan certification requirements for teachers, explore those highest demand positions within education, and provide you with the background information that you will need in order to get started.
Sessions are held in Gilberston Hall, GA 114 (unless exceptions noted) on SVSU's main campus in Saginaw (campus map):
We ask that you RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm your attendance. Please be sure to include the date you plan to attend, the name of the institution where you completed your highest degree, and a phone number where you can be reached during the day in the email. Your phone number is needed for notification in case a session is canceled due to illness or inclement weather.
Once you have attended a seminar, your next step is to meet with a certification adviser for an individualized appointment. During the appointment, the adviser will evaluate your transcripts and outline a planned program. You will leave the office knowing exactly what classes you will take, the time-frame for completing your program, and how to get started.
For those who hold at least a bachelor's degree and would like to obtain a teaching license in elementary education.
For students with a bachelor's degree or higher that would like to obtain their teaching license in secondary education.
