SVSU to Host Congressional Debate
|
The race between Paul Junge (R) and Kristen McDonald Rivet (D) for Michigan's 8th congressional district is one of the most hotly contested races in the nation. SVSU will host a debate between the candidates on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 6:45 p.m. in the Malcolm Field Theatre for Performing Arts.

Ramet Releases First Novel
|
Carlos Ramet, associate dean of SVSU’s College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences, will release his first novel later this month.
“The Quiet Limit of the World,” published by RIZE Press, will be available Sept. 24. Set in late 1970s San Francisco, the novel follows Diego Contreras, a recent college graduate, and Saloma Sevilla, a wealthy Filipino-Chinese graduate student, as they navigate societal and familial obstacles and civic unrest while coming to terms with their own limits.

SVSU will host the annual 9/11 Heroes Run on Sunday, Sept. 15, to benefit the Travis Manion Foundation and the Great Lakes Bay Veteran Coalition.
The race begins at 10 a.m. Check-in and late registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Ryder Center parking lot. More information can be found on the event’s Facebook page.

Athletics’ GameDay of Giving a Winner
|
In a win for SVSU athletics, Cardinal friends and fans contributed more than $22,000 during the the fourth annual GameDay of Giving.

Cardinal Football Opens the Season With a Win
|
The SVSU football team opened the 2024 season with a big win at Winona State University on Thursday, Sept. 5, besting the Warriors 38-14.
“We got off to a fast start,” head coach Ryan Brady said. “The second play of the game we dialed up a shot play and Mason McKenzie threw a great ball and Eric Craft made a huge catch and that jumped started us and got us going. From there I thought we controlled the game by running the football. I gave a lot of credit to the offensive line; [they] did a great job.”

SVSU Men’s Basketball Logged International Experience
|
Every four years the NCAA allows men's basketball teams to schedule an international experience, and from Aug. 17-20 the SVSU men's team traveled to Canada to play three games and enjoy each other’s company. The Cardinals completed the foreign trip with a 2-1 record after defeating Western (Ontario) University 96-81, and splitting two games with Windsor University, winning 70-67 on Aug. 20 after dropping a 73-78 contest on Aug. 18. The team gathered for a photo (above) after dinner at a restaurant overlooking the Detroit River.
