The SVSU licensing program was developed to protect, promote and support the use of all trademarked SVSU graphic marks. SVSU trademarks may be any artwork relating to the presentation of the following:

  • The official SVSU logo
  • The words "Saginaw Valley State University"
  • SVSU
  • Athletic logos and fonts
  • The official university seal
  • Any other design, symbol, art, word, or groups of words (e.g., Cardinals, Cardinal, Cards) that have come to be associated with SVSU

All external agencies and vendors must be granted permission for use of these symbols from Jill Miller, who will work closely with the SVSU purchasing office to secure all available vendors. Students and student groups may obtain approval for T-shirt designs and other imprinted items from University Communications. Any item bearing the university's name or logo must be approved.

Only licensed vendors are allowed to produce promotional items for SVSU. To be licensed, a vendor agrees to, and abides by, the licensing contract, pays an application fee and submits a quarterly royalty report and pays royalties when appropriate. Prior to being licensed, a vendor is checked by SVSU to assure quality products, sufficient production capabilities and timely deliveries to assure both SVSU's image and reputation.
