Enrollment Leader Ken Fettig Joins SVSU as New VP
|
Saginaw Valley State University has concluded a national search for vice president of enrollment management by selecting Ken Fettig to serve in the role.
Fettig comes to SVSU from Fairmont State University in West Virginia, where he served as vice president for enrollment management, student success, institutional effectiveness and strategic operations. Following several years of declines, Fairmont State increased first year enrollment by 7.5% and first-year student occupancy in on-campus housing by 15% in 2022.

Four Individuals Associated with SVSU Honored with YWCA Women of Achievement Awards
|
Four women with ties to SVSU were recognized by the YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region at the 11th annual Women of Achievement Awards luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Ellen Crane, SVSU associate vice president/general counsel and interim executive director of the SVSU Foundation, was honored with the prestigious YWCA Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her professional accomplishments and outstanding contributions to causes both professional and social.
Ann Colburn-Collins, a retired SVSU professional who previously served as the director of adjunct faculty and academic support programs, was honored with the YWCA Lorraine Patterson Award for her unwavering commitment to volunteerism and her tireless efforts in advancing the cause of women.
Jenny Geno was acknowledged with the award for Arts & Education for her role as the executive director of Career and Technical Education at the Saginaw Intermediate School District. She holds a Master of Arts in Education and a specialist in education degree from SVSU. Additionally, she was a Gerstacker Fellow through SVSU in 2016.
Jennifer Marar, who currently serves as the director of operations at MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant, received the Healthcare Award. She earned a Master of Science in healthcare administration and leadership from SVSU.

Students and advisors of SVSU’s Fellows program recently had an opportunity to meet with the couple who make the program possible.
In a visit to campus on October 4, Robert (Bob) and Marianne (Bobbi) Vitito (4th and third from right in photo above) toured the Carmona College of Business, where they engaged in a robust conversation about the Vitito Fellows program and opportunities for future growth and sustainability.

Federal Grant will Enable SVSU to Train More Social Workers for Underserved Areas
|
SVSU has been awarded a $1.06 million federal grant to enhance mental and behavioral health education for children, adolescents, and young adults in rural Michigan communities. This grant, provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration's Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training program, will support the "YouthWISE" project led by SVSU professor Catherine Macomber. The project aims to expand access to mental health care for young people by increasing the number, diversity, and skills of Master of Social Work graduates working in underserved areas across Michigan.

Solana Kelly Named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week
|
Solana Kelly had a great week on defense for Saginaw Valley State women's soccer. The team traveled to Ferris State last Friday, winning 3-0. Kelly scored the third goal of the game and helped anchor the team to their fifth straight shutout. The team has won four straight after a 0-0 tie to Michigan Tech. The goal on Friday was Kelly's second of the year.
