President Grant to Join Panel Discussion on Education in Saginaw Community
|
President George Grant Jr will join a panel of education professionals in a discussion about the state of education in the Saginaw community, particularly within the Black community, this Saturday, Oct. 28 at Bethel AME Church in Saginaw.
The State of the Race Summit, hosted by the Hon. M.T. Thompson, Jr., former district court judge, and the Men of Bethel AME Church, will address the unique problems faced by Black students.
The summit will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Bethel AME Church is located at 535 Cathay St. in Saginaw. The event is free and open to the public.

SVSU Represents at Language Association Annual Conference
|
Julie Foss, professor of modern foreign languages, along with students, alumni and fellow faculty from SVSU’s department of modern foreign languages gathered at the Michigan World Language Association’s annual conference in Lansing on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 19-20. With the theme of “Valuing a Multilingual Society,” the conference brought together current and future educators (pre-K through college) for professional learning and networking.
Foss and and two SVSU alumni each presented sessions at the conference. Foss serves as the Association’s public affairs liaison.

SVSU Athletics to Host Trunk or Treat Event
|
SVSU Athletics invites children and their families to Trunk or Treat Around the Track, an annual event to provide a safe and fun-filled Halloween experience. Children can enjoy more than 14 trick-or-treat stations hosted by SVSU student-athletes, and there will be a costume contest for children ages 5-12.
Trunk or Treat Around the Track will be held tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 27) from 5-7 p.m. in the Ryder Center. Coop’s Club members gain early entrance at 4:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public. Participants must complete a consent and waiver of liability.

SVSU Volunteer Day at Hidden Harvest
|
The SVSU Alumni Relations Office is partnering with Hidden Harvest for a volunteer day on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 4-6 p.m., and the entire SVSU community is invited to join us!
Hidden Harvest is a local nonprofit organization that focuses on addressing hunger and reducing food waste by collecting surplus food items and distributing them to people who need it most. Participants will assist with repacking large donations of flour into family-sized zip lock bags, making the food more accessible to those in need.

SVSU Theatre Hosts University Premiere of ‘Burning Bluebeard’
|
The SVSU theatre department is pleased to host the university premiere of “Burning Bluebeard,” a popular professional holiday show in Chicago. Written by Jay Torrence, “Bluebeard” is a sensitive and joyful story of redemption inspired by the 1903 fire that devastated Chicago’s Iroquois Theatre during a production of “Mr. Blue Beard,” a popular Broadway musical of the time.
Performances run through Sunday, Oct. 29. Due to subject matter, this play is recommended for ages 13+.

SVSU will host our fall open house this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Prospective students and their families can explore our stunning campus, tour top-ranked dorms, learn about our 100+ degree options and connect with knowledgeable faculty members.
The open house is open to all high school students as well as transfer and nontraditional students. We expect around 2,000 total visitors to campus. This is a great opportunity to extend our Cardinal hospitality and make them feel welcome.
