Writer's Workshop for Area Teachers
|
Thanks to a generous contribution from the Alden B. and Vada B. Dow Creativity Foundation, K-12 teachers are receiving support from Saginaw Valley State University and other partners to become writing instructors and inspire their students to love writing.
The Vada B. Dow Writer's Workshop for Area Teachers is a five-day writing workshop that will take place in Midland from Saturday, July 24 through Wednesday, July 28. This workshop is designed to cater to the professional development needs of K-12 educators and will offer a range of learning opportunities for up to 30 Michigan teachers. By participating in this workshop, teachers can earn 25 state continuing education clock hours (SCECH).
The workshop fee is $150 and includes complimentary lunch every day. The deadline to apply is May 15.

SVSU Pre-Law and Moot Court Students Volunteer for Saginaw County Law Day
|
SVSU Pre-Law and Moot Court students served as raters for the Saginaw County Law Day. Pre-Law/Moot Court students Abigail Walk, Toni Gjerkaj, and Adiya Young, were able to volunteer for the Saginaw County Bar Association's Law Day for the Saginaw County high school Mock Trial competition. SVSU students were able to meet and speak with high school students as well as judges and attorneys in the Saginaw region.

Women's Golf Finishes Tied Ninth in NCAA East Regional
|
The SVSU women's golf team finished an historic season, finishing in a ninth place tie in the NCCA East Regional tournament. This followed an appearance in the finals of the GLIAC Championship for the first time in program history.
Rachael Krieger had the best finish for the team with a T17 spot after scoring 226, while Brook Herbstreit, Megan Thiravong, Emily O'Brien, and Megan Kozlowski also played well. Their total scores were 235, 240, 245, and 250 respectively. In the tournament, the team finished ninth in par three scoring, eleventh in par four scoring, and ninth in par five scoring. They also made a total of 22 birdies and one eagle (by Krieger).

SVSU Softball NCAA DII Tournament Bound with a Matchup Against Ohio Dominican on Thursday

The Saginaw Valley State University softball team will play #6 Ohio Dominican in the Midwest 2 Regional of the 2023 NCAA Division II Softball Tournament, hosted by Grand Valley State University. SVSU earned the #3 seed after winning the GLIAC Tournament Championship Game.
The tournament consists of 64 teams in double-elimination tournaments held from May 11-13. Winners will advance to the super regionals on May 18-19, and the finals will be held from May 25-31 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. SVSU has faced all three teams in the regional this season, and the game between Saginaw Valley State and Ohio Dominican will take place on May 11 at 2:30 p.m.

SVSU Baseball is Set to Kick Off the 2023 GLIAC Baseball Tournament on Thursday
|
SVSU finished the season with five games over 500, their best conference finish since 2007, and their first winning season since 2011. The GLIAC Tournament begins on Thursday at Jackson Field in Lansing, Michigan, home of the Lansing Lugnuts, where Saginaw Valley will play Grand Valley as the home team at 7:00 p.m.
