HLC Peer Review Committee Completed
|
SVSU successfully completed a site visit by a peer review team from the Higher Learning Commission, our institutional accrediting body, in April of this year. The site visit and associated reporting process were part of a two-year effort involving staff, faculty and students from across campus. These activities are an important part of ongoing efforts to maintain the quality of education at SVSU.
Peer-review visits are a standard part of the accreditation process and take place every 10 years. While the university is still waiting for final word by the HLC Institutional Actions Council, which will meet late this month, we are optimistic about the outcome. Deborah Huntley, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, stated “We have an outstanding university that is operating in a responsible manner while providing excellent education to our students. Our efforts to showcase our many achievements were seen and appreciated by the HLC peer review team.”

SVSU Track & Field Athletes Honored for Standout Achievements
|
Capping off an extraordinary year, SVSU men’s and women’s track and field teams were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with 2024 NCAA Division II all-academic team honors. The men compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.2, while the women’s team registered a 3.46.
For a team to receive the All-Academic Team award the GPA of each student-athlete on the institution’s squad list for indoor and/or outdoor track and field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
In addition to the team awards, three SVSU men and nine women were listed on the all-academic athletes list.
Cheyenne Nesbitt has continued to garner accolades. Early this month, she was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year by the league office. Nesbitt is the first student-athlete from SVSU to be awarded the GLIAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year since the award’s inception.
In June, Nesbitt and Sam Black, SVSU alumnus and assistant track and field coach, proudly represented SVSU at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene Oregon. Black finished 7th in the decathlon, and Nesbitt placed 11th in the heptathlon.
