Beginning Monday, Feb. 5, students, faculty and staff will have a new MySVSU portal. This one-stop shop will connect you with important systems, information and updates in an easy-to-use, customizable format.
Here’s what you can do through MySVSU:

- Access Self-Service, Canvas, SVSU email and other everyday systems.
- Receive key notifications from Canvas and other systems.
- Keep updated on announcements and alerts relevant to you.
- Easily find staff, faculty, systems, resources and more.
- View and complete your most important tasks.
- Join on-campus and virtual events.
- Stay informed regarding upcoming portal enhancements and features such as a mobile app and community groups.

Musical Director/Keyboardist for Billy Joel to Visit
|
Join the SVSU Foundation for an evening of musical selections and reflections by David Rosenthal, musical director and keyboardist for Billy Joel. Over his 40-year career, Rosenthal has worked with a who’s who of notable artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Robert Palmer, Cyndi Lauper, Alicia Keys and more. He joined Billy Joel for the “River of Dreams Tour” in 1993 and has performed on countless tours since then. For the last 10 years, Rosenthal has been part of Joel’s record-breaking Madison Square Garden Residency.
“An Evening with David Rosenthal: Stories from the Road” takes place Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested for planning purposes. This event is made possible by the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Visiting Artists and Scholars Endowment at SVSU.

Former Child Star Speaks to Classes on Mental Wellness
|
Shavar Ross, a former child actor who gained fame on the television show "Diff'rent Strokes," is visiting SVSU and community organizations for a mini-residency.
During his visit, from Feb. 1-3, Ross is visiting SVSU classes in the theatre and social work departments as well as conducting a lunch and learn with faculty and staff in the College of Health & Human Services. Additionally, Ross is visiting a number of community groups and shelters. His visit culminates in a community-wide fireside chat on Saturday, from 4-6 p.m., at the Saginaw County Community Action Center.
Melvin McDowell, SVSU assistant professor of social work, secured funding through the Dow Visiting Scholars and Artists endowment at SVSU to bring Ross to SVSU and Saginaw.

Communication Prof Traces History of the Cassette Tape in New Book
|
In his new book, Robert Drew, SVSU professor communication, unravels the history of the cassette tape from post-World War II to today. “Unspooled: How the Cassette Made Music Shareable” will be published by Duke University Press in March.

Former Dow Leader Presents Book Talk
|
SVSU will host Andrew Liveris, former chairman and chief executive office of Dow and former executive chairman of DowDuPont, to discuss his latest book, “Leading Through Disruption: A Changemaker’s Guide to Twenty-First Century Leadership.” Liveris will share essential wisdom from his four decades of global leadership experience and discuss his model for problem-solving with an eye toward creating a more equitable and sustainable future.
The event will take place Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 1-2 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall. Free copies of Liveris's book will be available.

SVSU Track Standout Shines at USATF Championships, Named Athlete of the Week
|
Cheyenne Williamson Nesbitt won the pentathlon at the USA Track & Field Indoor Combined Events Championships held in Indianapolis on Jan. 28, becoming the first collegiate student-athlete to do so and setting a new NCAA Division II record in the process. She was named national player of the week by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The women's track and field team will participate in the W-C-W Tri Meet at noon on Saturday, Feb. 3, in the SVSU fieldhouse.
Women's tennis meets Findlay at the Midland Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m.
Women's basketball travels to Parkside for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 3.
The men's and women's basketball teams host Davenport on Thursday, Feb. 8. The women play at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
