Fellow Cardinals,
Welcome to the 2nd edition of SVSU Today. This e-newsletter is being produced by University Communications to inform the campus community of all the great work happening around campus.
Many faculty and staff were familiar with the President’s Weekly Update. The presidential transition has provided a natural opportunity to review our internal communication strategy. SVSU Today will become our internal source for sharing stories. It is modeled, in part, after a similar communication we introduced last year to high school counselors and parents of prospective students. The e-mail open rates and feedback we received revealed that those audiences were eager to receive such information.
We know great work is happening throughout the university by our faculty, staff and students, and we want to continue sharing that information with you and the broader community. If you have suggestions, comments, or something to share, please e-mail us at svsutoday@svsu.edu.

First Year MSOT Students Attended Seminar Focused on Shoulder Conditions
|
SVSU students in the first year of their master’s degree program in occupational therapy attended a 9-hour seminar that focused on the shoulder on Saturday, Jan. 21. Don Earley, professor of occupational therapy, educated students on shoulder conditions and the associated occupational interventions, and differential assessments. With the help of Jill Ewend, simulated learning laboratory associate, and Kadie Schultz, fieldwork coordinator/simulation laboratory associate, students learned the corresponding lab components for coursework they will be tested on throughout the remainder of the semester.
During this past fall semester, these students attended a similar seminar where they were educated on neurodevelopmental and rehabilitative functional approaches and occupation-based interventions.

SVSU Nursing Student Featured on CBS News Detroit
|
By the time Molly Pratt earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in December, she had overcome more hurdles than the average SVSU student. Diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 16, Molly endured two relapses and a bone marrow transplant. Her experience – and the care she received at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak – inspired Molly to pursue a nursing degree. Today, Molly is starting her nursing career at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital (formerly Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak), working with some of the nurses who cared for her.
