Freshmen Move Into #1 Ranked Dorms
Last week, we welcomed over 800 freshmen into First Year Suites, MJ Brandimore House and Living Centers. Combined with early arrivals, we have more than 900 first-year students in campus housing.
It's no surprise so many students elect to live in our residence halls. SVSU again boasts the nation’s #1 ranked dorms among 4-year public institutions!

The SVSU Foundation recently hosted an intimate “Evening in the Garden” at the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum for friends of SVSU who support the university at the Advocates Society or President’s Circle level. These donors had the opportunity to meet artist Rose Chiu, whose exhibition is presently on view. The Foundation and the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum are grateful to Rose Chiu's daughter, Ju Yu Chen, SVSU's international partnership coordinator, who helped coordinate the artist's visit. Photo credit: Beyond Jade

University Art Gallery Exhibit Explores Artists’ Ideas About African Experience
The University Art Gallery is showcasing two artists whose works explore the African diaspora. An opening reception will be held Thursday, September 7, and the exhibit will remain on display through Saturday, September 16.
Gretchen Beck’s “Habu Nya Dumi Dumi” is a series of mixed-media collage paintings that reflect her experiences among the Niger people and culture, which she came to appreciate while living in that country. Beck’s collages are interspersed with masks and sculptural works by Saginaw artist Lark Allen III. His art focuses on the populations of the African diaspora, using repurposed and refabricated items as well as items found in nature.
