Pros vs. Joes Fundraiser on Thursday for Esports
|
Join us this Thursday, April 13 in the Student Life Center for an exciting event featuring SVSU staff and faculty (“Joes”) going up against the “Pros” of the SVSU Competitive Esports team in Rocket League. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the match starts at 5:00.
The event is, in part, a fundraiser for the First Ward Community Center in Saginaw. Donating to First Ward secures in-game perks that benefit the Joes team. Please consider donating to give the underdog Joes the edge they need to win, and support a deserving community organization in the process.
Light refreshments will be provided, and the whole family is invited as the event is kid-friendly. Come cheer on the Joes:

SVSU Student Receives National Award for Proficiency in French
|
Samantha Chew has been honored with a 2023 AATF Outstanding Senior in French Award by the American Association of Teachers of French. The award recognizes senior-level students who have demonstrated excellence in the study of French as well as exceptional commitment to the French language and the cultures where it is spoken. To be eligible for recognition, students must also be a non-native speaker of French, have completed three years of formal French instruction, maintain and “A” average in French and a “B” overall, and participate in extracurricular activities. Only one student per school is honored.
Chew, of Midland, will graduate in April with a double major in international business and French. She currently works as a program analyst intern for the USDA and will continue in that capacity through the summer.
Being recognized with the Outstanding Senior in French Award was an honor for Chew.
“Learning French has been a passion of mine for the past four years,” she said, “and it is great to be recognized for all the extracurricular time that I’ve put into it. I am grateful to Dr. Foss for encouraging me and for all the support she gives to her students.”
