The office of the Associate Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students serves as the lead administrative office for the Unit of Student Affairs at Saginaw Valley State University.
Dr. Sidney R. Childs currently serves as the Associate Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. Dear SVSU Students,
As you know the news of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is rapidly changing. I am writing to you to highlight a few more updates that are specifically relevant for you as students.
The following are some updates about student affairs areas and resources over the next few weeks. It is our deep commitment to care for all students. Should you have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to email@example.com. It is our promise to support our students in all ways possible. All Student Affairs office are open virtually and staff are available during normal business hours. However, there are few departments that require direct updates.
The Student Counseling Center: The Student Counseling Center will be open through virtual appointments Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30pm. This virtual therapy option is for current and new clients beginning March 24 in order provide ongoing services to students. Please complete this pre-intake form to seek counseling services.

All emergencies should be directed to call 911.
Campus Recreation and Wellness Programs: The Fitness Center is closed. No programmed activities are scheduled until further notice (e.g., fitness classes, club practices, intramurals, etc.). Please visit www.svsu.edu/campusrecreation for more detailed information. Please be sure to stay active such as taking walks or running. We want you to take care of yourself.
Student Life Center: The Student Life area is closed. The Food Pantry will be accessed by appointment only. All inquiries should be sent to email@example.com. Residential Life and Housing: University Housing remains open. Students are urged to return to their permanent residence if they can. For those students who have chosen to stay, we ask that they do their part to adhere to social distancing efforts. We do not yet know how long students who choose to return to their permanent residence will be away from campus or if our operational status will change in the coming weeks. Residents are asked to call 989.964.2984 for assistance.
For students who fully move out of housing by Sunday April 19, SVSU will issue a pro-rated housing credit effective the date you turn in your key and complete the checkout process.
Please know the Housing Express Checkout protocol does not require a face-to-face interaction. Instructions were sent directly to students. We also remind students that SVSU’s Housing and Residential Life offices are operating, though most staff are working remotely. Please make sure to read all the emails to date including attachments (Express Checkout Protocol, Winter 2020 Express Checkout Guide, and COVID-19 Refund Communication).
Campus Dining hours have adjusted. Effective March 24:
A pre-packaged continental breakfast will be available for students to pick up with dinner at the Marketplace.
Dining will continue to use the pre-order system for meals in the Marketplace. Pre-orders are accepted up to 30 minutes before meal periods begin.
