November 18th - December 13th, 2019
Reception: November 21st, 4 – 6 p.m.
This exhibition features artwork by the Bachelor of Fine Arts candidates and serves as a completion of their undergraduate program. Graduating students are Danielle Cecil and Shelby Thurston.
Throughout the history of art, artists such as Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch have used their work as a medium to express their grief, trauma, or psychological distress. In my most recent body of work, On Thin Ice, I am reflecting my personal experiences of trauma, the diagnosis it caused, and the toll it has taken on my life. This series has allowed me the opportunity to call attention to the fact that anyone can develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after any traumatic event. This psychological condition is not limited to people who have taken on a military role.
I have created the animated series, Fyn Kayne, as a means for me to build my graphic design knowledge and communication skills for narrative design. The content is meant to entertain and connect to younger generations. Using current industry names like Adobe Photoshop and the animating software, Toon Boom Harmony, the show mixes the contemporary styles of Adventure Time and Rick and Morty with digital hand drawn animating style like the classic Disney look. Fyn Kayne is meant to fascinate as viewers travel with Fyn and his team across the universe, while also leaving them thinking about their impact on their environment through ecologically conscious imagery.
