GEC is responsible for maintaining the quality of the General Education Program—specifically, approval of courses to be offered for Gen Ed credit, on-going evaluation of all courses in the Gen Ed program, and overall assessment of the Gen Ed program. The members include six faculty members, two appointees by the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, and one student selected by the student government (see section F6 of the Faculty Contract).

This includes but is not limited to the approval (within the overall curriculum process), implementation and ongoing evaluation of courses to be offered for General Education credit; and the assessment of the overall program.
