SVSU Recognized as a Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars, Enriching Student Learning
|
Two SVSU faculty members ― Andrea Frederick, professor nursing, and Natalia Knoblock, associate professor of English — were selected for Fulbright awards for academic year 2022-2023.
Among colleges and universities in Michigan that do not grant doctoral degrees, SVSU is the only institution to produce more than one Fulbright U.S. Scholar.

SVSU Jazz Jam Event Tomorrow
|
The Department of Music and RSO Jazz @ SVSU are hosting a Jazz Jam Session tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Founders Hall. This event is a way for musicians to come together and play some jazz in a more relaxed, learning environment outside of the regular ensembles. All are welcome to join in and play some tunes and even work on your improv skills.

Rhea Miller Concert Series: Boston Brass
|
The Department of Music is also hosting their first event of the Winter 2023 semester of the Rhea Miller Concert Series with guest artist Boston Brass on Saturday, Feb. 17. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Board Approves Naming Rights Deal With Covenant for Athletic Training Rooms
|
The Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control has approved a sponsorship agreement with Covenant HealthCare to name the university’s athletic training rooms for student-athletes in the Ryder Center as the Covenant HealthCare Cardinal Care Center.
Under the agreement, Covenant will contribute at least $142,000 per year for 10 years for naming rights and will be recognized as SVSU’s exclusive sports medicine provider.

Adult Workshop at the Museum Tomorrow
|
The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum is hosting an adult workshop focused on screen-print monotype tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Both Off Kilter and The Legend of John Brown exhibitions have screen prints by well-known artists. Learn about the screen-printing process of forcing ink through a stenciled mesh onto a tote bag or t-shirt to make an image. Andrea Ondish, curator of education, will facilitate this 3-hour workshop. Class size is limited; it costs $10 to attend.

Adapt Toy Hack-A-Thon Event Held on Campus
|
Last weekend the Occupational Therapy Department partnered with Makers Making Change to offer a 4.5 hour continuing education event where a select number of students and working occupational therapists were educated on the maker movement, switch construction, and how to adapt a toy.
Thanks to the efforts of associate professor of occupational therapy, Aricka Schweitzer, many second-year MSOT students, and alumni were able to immerse themselves in toy adaptation at the event.

Track and Field Athlete Competes at the USATF Championships Today
|
Track and field athlete Cheyenne Williamson is set to compete in the USTAF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the pentathlon at 1 p.m. EST today. She qualified for the meet based off her first-place performance in the pentathlon at the 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships. She is competing unattached. SVSU alum ('18) Sam Black, an assistant coach for the men's and women's track and field and golf teams, will be competing in the heptathlon at 1:30 p.m. EST.

SVSU Track & Field Individual Performances
|
Runners Alexa Keiser and Lauren Buckner of the women’s team and Nate Furst of the men’s team posted impressive personal best performances at the GVSU Big Meet this past weekend. All three posted NCAA II qualifying times and broke school records. The track and field team competes again on Friday, Feb. 17 at the Hansen Indoor Track at the SVSU.

SVSU Mens & Womens Diving
|
Our men’s and women's swimming and diving program are amid competition at the GLIAC Championships hosted by Davenport University. The women sit in fifth place and the men are in sixth.
