During the 2005 - 2006 school year, the Student Research and Creativity Institute (SRCI) was developed to provide financial support for students to pursue research or other creative endeavors above and beyond what is possible during the traditional classroom experience. In 2012, the program was endowed by the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation. Two years later, in 2014, additional funding from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation and the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow STEM Scholars Network enabled the program to be enhanced into what it is today. The program, now known as the Undergraduate Research Program (UGRP), supports three unique grants of more than $200,000 for faculty and students to pursue research. The combination of university funding and gifts from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation and the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow STEM Scholars Network has positioned SVSU to form this valuable program that will provide a wide range of faculty and students the opportunity to engage in innovative research and, no doubt, attract talent to SVSU in years to come.
