SVSU has relationships with many universities overseas that allow the exchange of students between universities.  In most cases, students live on campus and study alongside local students. These programs are the most affordable type of program.

Program providers are companies that work with SVSU to send students abroad.  They help to coordinate the logistics for you by providing students with on-site orientations, securing housing, course registration, in-country support, cultural activities, excursions, and more. 

On provider programs you'll have the option to choose between many different destinations, course options, housing options, and program dates.  You're also guaranteed to receive SVSU credit and are able to use all of your financial aid and scholarship toward the program cost. Japan Center for Michigan Universities

• JCMU is partnered with various schools both in and out of Michigan in order to promote study abroad programs in Japan
• Born from the strong sister state relationship existing between the State of Michigan and Shiga Prefecture, the Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU) has run programs in Hikone since 1989

The Study Abroad Office has teamed up with the College of Education to offer future teachers the opportunity to complete part of their student teaching semester abroad. In partnership with Global Gateway, you have the option of completing half of your student teaching abroad semester in Michigan and the other half in one of many exciting destinations abroad!

K-12 and Secondary Education majors qualify.

In any of the locations listed above, you are not required to speak a foreign language. All student teaching will be conducted in English.

If you're interested in a career-building experience that looks great on a résumé, an internship abroad is a great option for you.  SVSU works with its providers to offer internships all over the world, either combined with a study abroad experience or as a stand-alone trip.
