MTTC Tests Required for Secondary Level Teacher Certification

Teacher candidates seeking secondary certification must successfully complete a content area major and minor or two content area majors to be eligible for certification. It is strongly recommended that the MTTC test(s) be taken after successful completion of all required courses for the teacher candidate's major(s) and minor(s).  Please Note: Secondary education majors seeking a Special Education endorsement in Austism Spectrum Disorder or Cognitive Impairment must take the related MTTC test as well as the Elementary Education MTTC test to be certified K-12.

Additional Endorsements - Teacher candidates who have opted to work on an additional endorsement area must complete the corresponding MTTC test to add the subject area to their initial teaching certificate. It is highly recommended that the test be taken after successful completion of all required coursework.

MTTC ON-LINE
Online registration for the MTTC is available at www.mttc.nesinc.com. Please refer to the MTTC website for additional information on location of test(s), preparing to take the test(s), what to expect the day of the test(s), see test objectives, and obtain information on requesting alternative testing arrangements.

MTTC content area tests are offered in a paper-based and computer-based format throughout the year. Teacher candidates will receive a score report approximately one month after the test has been taken. It is important that the teacher candidate maintain the original copy of their score report in a secure file for easy access. If the score report is misplaced, teacher candidates will have to request a new copy from National Evaluation Systems, Inc. which administers the test.

REPORTING SCORES TO SVSU
MTTC test results must be submitted to SVSU electronically; select institution code #24 when registering to take the test to ensure that SVSU receives the test results.
