By understanding the occurrence of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome within the counties; health commissions and professionals can identify the problem and find a solution(s).

 Understanding financial data, like insurance status, helps professionals gain insight into programs they may need to implement to assist the community. All counties, excluding Bay County, have uninsured rates higher than state average.

Historical data shows how the counties progress, and give insight into the financial wellness within the counties. All counties, excluding Bay county, have poverty rates higher than the state average.

Another financial indicator is the amount of women who give birth using Medicaid. All counties, excluding Gladwin, have a higher incidence of Medicaid funded births compared to the state average.

Understanding pregnancy rates for women aged 18-44 puts the target population into numerical perspective.

Low birthweight can be an indicator of maternal health issues during pregnancy, as well as newborn health issues that will arise. All counties, excluding Bay County and Iosco County, have low birthweight rates lower than the state average.

Women aged 18-44 that gave birth to children with a low birthweight is lower than the state average.

Tobacco use during pregnancy is associated with negative health effects for the newborn. The counties all being over the state average can indicate a need for education surrounding substance use when conceiving and during pregnancy.
