Maternal Care Resources in the MI Babies Region

This content is made available to provide our community with linkage to important resources for maternal health including access to substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery supports.

Acronym List

HIV - human immunodeficiency virus: a disease that weakens the immune system and can increase likelihood of AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Virus).  
MIHPS - maternal infant health program: provides resources, education and support for a health pregnancy and baby 
PrEP - Pre Exposure Prophylaxis: tool used to provide protection against contracting HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) 
SSP -  Syringe Service Program: safe needle/syringe disposal and exchange program 
STI - sexually transmitted infection 
WIC - Women Infants and Children Program: nutrition program for low-income women, infants and children up to 5 years. 

How to access behavioral health and substance use disorder services in your area

PIHPs are Pre-paid Inpatient Health Plans. They manage Medicaid services for behavioral health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. There are 10 in the state of Michigan: Northcare Network, Northern Michigan Regional Entity (NMRE), Lakeshore Regional Entity, Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health, Mid-State Health Network (MSHN), CMH Partnership of Southeast Michigan, Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority dba Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network, Oakland Community Health Network, Macomb County CMH Services and Genesee CMH/Lapeer CMH/Sanilac CMH/St. Clair CMH. 

MSHN serves 21 counties: Bay-Arenac, Clare, Clinton, Eaton, Gladwin, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Huron, Ingham, Isabella, Jackson Mecosta, Midland, Montcalm, Osceola, Newaygo, Saginaw, Shiawassee, and Tuscola

NMRE serves 21 counties: Alcona, Alpena, Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmer, Grand Traverse, Iosco, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, Montmorency, OgemawOscoda, Otsego, Presque. Isle, Roscommon and Wexford
