MSOT Application Requirements & Instructions
Application for Winter 2025 Open May 15, 2024
Saginaw Valley State University is introducing new dual entry points for the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program starting Fall 2024 and Winter 2025. Students can now enter the program in either semester, providing flexibility for Freshman Direct Admit, 3+2, and Bachelor’s entry students. This change accommodates varying academic and personal needs. The MSOT program will have rolling admissions, reviewing applications throughout the cycle.

Application System
Our application system will prompt you to upload supplemental documents after the application form is completed.
- 3+2 Applicants (students without a bachelor's degree): Please save and upload all supplemental documents (items 1-7) in the application portal following application submission.
- MSOT Applicants (students with an earned bachelor's degree): Please save and upload all supplemental documents (items 1-3 and 7) in the application portal following application submission.
1. Transcripts
Official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts from institutions other than SVSU.
- You DO NOT need to provide SVSU official transcripts.
- You DO NOT need to provide transcripts if you transferred to SVSU and already provided those transcripts to us.
- You DO need to provide transcripts if you have taken courses at another college or university and have not yet provided those transcripts to us.
- You DO need to provide transcripts from any college or university attended where a degree has been earned.
To send official transcripts to SVSU, contact your previous institution (often the Registrar's office) and request they be sent to Saginaw Valley State University. To expedite processing, if available, select e-delivery and send your transcripts to Graduate Admissions, gradadm@svsu.edu.
2. Volunteer Experience
Completion of 30 hours of verifiable work and/or volunteer experience with people experiencing decreased participation in daily activities due to illness, disability, or decreased access to basic resources and opportunities. (ex. photocopy of chart which includes location, number of hours signed by supervisor, letter from supervisor which includes location, number of hours, email correspondence from faculty member, OT department advisor if approval has been given for using work hours)
3. Criminal Background Check & Drug Test
Provide results from the criminal background check and drug screening obtained through CastleBranch (Use Package Code “Ai96” for “SVSU-Occupational Therapy”). Both your criminal background check and drug screening results should be provided as part of your application. Please note the "Medical Records" portion is not required.
4. Current Prerequisite Courses
Current SVSU applicants only:
Please provide a document outlining the OT courses you are currently enrolled (Winter 2023 semester).
5. Degree Audit
Current SVSU applicants only:
Visit mySVSU to obtain your degree audit. Save a copy to upload to your application. DO NOT upload or send photos of your degree audit.
6. Course Petitions
Current SVSU applicants only:
Please upload any course petition forms that relate to any OT prerequisite courses in the application.

- Start New Application. Please note that if you haven't applied to SVSU since August of 2021 you will need to create a new application account.
- Follow the instructions and complete your application. Once complete, please submit your application.
- Log in to the application portal to review your checklist and upload all additional requirements.

- SVSU students do not need to request official SVSU transcripts; this will be automatically processed if SVSU is listed as an institution attended in the application.

Application Results
Admission Results Notification?
Notification of admission results will be sent out no later than the week prior to Spring course registration (generally early March). Please do not email or call the admissions or occupational therapy department to inquire about admission results. All admission committee decisions are final.
