The nursing program at Saginaw Valley State University continues to stand out for career preparation, as its students posted an exemplary 98.4% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX®, the national licensure exam. Nurses must pass this exam to become licensed and enter the nursing profession, and 124 Saginaw Valley State University nursing students passed the test and are ready to begin work.
“Although our graduates have performed very well on the NCLEX, this is the first time SVSU students have achieved a 98% first-time pass rate,” said Beth Roe, SVSU professor nursing and nursing program director. “This success can be attributed, at least in part, to the more robust academic support SVSU provides to students throughout the nursing program.”
For the same period, January to June 2024, the first-time pass rate in Michigan was nearly 94%, while the national rate was 92%.
SVSU offers one of the largest undergraduate nursing programs in the Midwest, with high standards of instruction and clinical preparation. Its quality has garnered notice: SVSU was ranked in the top 10% of nursing schools nationally by RNCareers.org, which annually evaluates more than 1,700 nursing schools in the U.S. to assemble its merit-based rankings.
“Saginaw Valley State University has long been recognized for its commitment to excellence in nursing education. The institution’s rigorous curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities, and dedicated faculty ensure that nursing students receive the highest quality education and training in Michigan and the nation. Their graduates are well-prepared to make significant contributions to the health care profession. This recognition by RNCareers.org underscores the university’s unwavering dedication to preparing its students for successful careers in the health care profession,” said Jeff Morrow, publisher at RNCareers.org.
In addition to the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, SVSU’s Department of Nursing offers an RN to BSN program for nurses who seek to further their education and an ADN to BSN concurrent program for students enrolled in associate degree nursing programs at partnering community colleges. The university also offers a Master of Science in Nursing, a Doctor of Nursing Practice and post-graduate certificate programs.
