Saginaw Valley State University students are hooked on doing good for others, so they’re continuing a 20-year fundraising contest without their traditional competitor.
Battle of the Valleys, a weeklong fundraising contest between students at SVSU and Grand Valley State University, began in 2003 as a lead-up to the football game between the rival schools. While GVSU students have decided not to participate in the fundraising competition, SVSU students intend to carry on the proud tradition.
This year, Battle of the Valley will pit SVSU registered student organizations in a friendly competition to raise funds for Camp Fish Tales in Pinconning, a year-round, barrier-free camp, conference and retreat center for people of all ages and disabilities.
“We have supported a wide variety of community organizations over the years,” said this year’s Battle of the Valley chair Chase Valuet, a management and marketing major from Sterling Heights. “We chose Camp Fish Tales this year because we deeply appreciate what the organization is and does and what it stands for.”
The 21st annual fundraising competition will begin on Monday, September 25 and conclude with the football Saturday, September 30. SVSU is hosting this year’s contest; kick off is s at 6 p.m.
Activities held during the week will include:
Other activities include a euchre tournament, T-shirt and sweatshirt sales, and more. For more information, follow the SVSU Student Association on social media: @svsu_sa on Instagram and SVSU Student Association on Facebook.
