When the 8th grade class of Cesar Chavez Academy in Detroit graduates today, they will receive a gift designed to put them farther along the path for success: early admission to Saginaw Valley State University.
SVSU’s School/ University Partnership Office and Office of Admissions will present certificates of admission at CCA’s 8th grade graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 20. The 2 p.m. ceremony will be held at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn.
“Cesar Chavez Academy boasts a 95% graduation rate. We want to help ensure that CCA students are prepared to enter college upon completing high school,” said David Lewis, director of School & University Partnerships at SVSU. “By connecting with students as they enter high school, we can work with them over the next four years to help guide them toward their next steps and help them achieve their goals.”
The CCA class of 2027 are the first to receive this offer of early admission. During each year of high school, the students will have the opportunity to participate in information sessions and activities designed to increase college readiness, including a fieldtrip to SVSU, a career day and a college fair, career path guidance from SVSU, and more.
CCA students who wish to enroll at SVSU will need to reach three milestones:
Cesar Chavez Academy is a Detroit charter school serving students in grades K-12. It is authorized by SVSU. More than 200 students are expected to participate in the 8th grade graduation ceremony.
SVSU’s School/University Partnership Office serves over 10,000 students in more than 20 academies across the state of Michigan. The office supports our schools by providing professional development, board training opportunities, teacher scholarships, and student scholarships for students that attend SVSU after graduation from an SVSU-authorized school.
