In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Hispanic Latino Commission of Michigan has recognized a Saginaw Valley State University staff member as one of the Top 50 Latinas of Michigan.
Carmen Stricker, assistant director of freshmen operations at SVSU, and the other honorees will be recognized at the sold-out Statewide Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations event at the Horizons Conference Center in Saginaw Township Friday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m.
“It's a huge honor to be in the same category as these fabulous Latinas,” Stricker said. “It's just a thrill to even be considered. Si se puede. (Yes, we can.)”
The purpose of the Top 50 Latinas of Michigan award is to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves in their organizations, professions and communities.
The Hispanic Latino Commission of Michigan stated that the award recipients embody the Commission's values and represent “the best of who we are as Latinas and as leaders.”
The Commission considered honorees' involvement in community activities, outstanding progress in their professions and a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Nominations were taken from all over Michigan.
