Saginaw Valley State University honored several regional business leaders as well as outstanding faculty and staff during the university’s 31st All-University Awards Banquet Friday, April 29.
Education advocates say an SVSU-based leadership education initiative for teachers will bolster math studies and achievement in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Four local high school students, two from Carrollton High School and two from John Glenn High School in Bay City, have been recognized as national leaders in empowering their peers to learn math and science.
Alec Ward has a gift for solving math problems, and he wants to share that talent with others. “No question, he has been one of our best students ever,” said Amy Hlavacek, associate professor of mathematics. “He’s already great at teaching others math.”
Jenni Putz plans to go to graduate school. The Saginaw Valley State University student already has the resume of a PhD. student.
Jenni Putz enjoys a challenge. Her research record is extraordinary for an undergraduate, and one of those research interests resulted from challenging herself to step outside of her comfort zone. Far outside.
