The goal of Martin Luther King Jr., Cesar Chavez, and Rosa Parks (KCP) Initiative is to increase the number of Michigan’s most educationally targeted citizens, who have the opportunity to complete college degrees and experience career success as active participants in knowledge based global society and economy. By promoting systemic change within the educational setting successful strategies are institutionalized to benefit all students at the institution.
Therefore in 2011, Saginaw Valley State University received a six-year $684,300 grant from the state of Michigan to provide academic support and mentoring to first generation students. The program is proud to announce that hundreds of students are currently active in the program with an overall retention rate of 79%.
The King Chavez Parks (KCP) 4-S P.A.S.S. Grant Program is designed to educate and motivate our students for success. Our goal is to increase graduation rates by developing partnership focused on retention of our students through effective instruction, counseling strategies, tutoring, and mentoring programs. Saginaw Valley State University and the KCP 4-S P.A.S.S. program is committed to the success of its students.
