The Office of the General Counsel serves the University by providing exemplary legal services and representation, adhering to the highest ethical standards. We are committed to delivering sound, reliable advice on all University matters, earning recognition and trust throughout the SVSU community.
About the Office of the General Counsel
The Office of the General Counsel represents Saginaw Valley State University and the Board of Control only. The primary responsibilities of the office include:
- Coordinating the delivery of all legal services to the University
- Drafts and/or reviews drafts of institutional policies, rules and practices
- Receives and reviews contracts
- Advises University officials regarding how the law may affect current and emerging business and policy decisions at the institution
- Coordinates all University litigation
- Oversees legal services assigned to outside counsel
