About the Office of the General Counsel

The Office of the General Counsel represents Saginaw Valley State University and the Board of Control.  The primary responsibilities of the office include: 

• Coordinating the delivery of all legal services to the University
• Drafts and/or reviews draft's of institutional policies, rules and practices
• Receives and reviews contracts 
• Advises University officials regarding how the law may affect current and emerging business and policy decisions at the institution
• Coordinates all University litigation
• Oversees legal services assigned to outside counsel

All University policies, procedures and guidelines that affect the day-to-day operations and are monitored and/or managed by the Office of the General Counsel can be found below.

The Office of the General Counsel provides legal services and representation to the University in accordance with the highest legal and ethical standards.

The Office of the General Counsel is recognized throughout the SVSU community for delivering sound and reliable legal advice concerning the business of the University.
