Structure, Organization, and Governance of SVSU
SVSU is governed by the Board of Control, whose members are appointed by the Governor of Michigan. Two Vice Presidents and a set of executive directors and special assistants report to the President and carry out the essential functions of the University. These administrators, plus the academic Deans, comprise the President’s Council.

Office of Academic and Student Affairs
The Office of Academic and Student Affairs, under the leadership of the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs (Provost/VPAA), administers most issues of direct concern to SVSU faculty members. The Provost/VPAA serves as the chief academic officer for the University, providing direction for the overall administration and quality of all academic programs, ensuring the effective delivery of the curriculum, and fostering the development of new programs. In addition, the Provost/VPAA oversees all faculty hiring and makes administrative appointments to the standing committees.
Deans
The Office of Academic Affairs unit oversees SVSU’s five colleges; each college is led by a Dean who reports directly to the Provost/VPAA. The academic departments, which align with traditional academic disciplines, are found within the colleges; each is led by a faculty chair, elected biannually by the department.
