SVSU student to study French in Quebec as part of Morley internship program

A Saginaw Valley State University student will spend part of the summer in Montreal as part of a new fellowship program that will lead to an internship at Morley. Alan Rifenbark, a French and history double major from Bad Axe, will live and study at the University of Quebec at Montreal from July 5 to August 14.

SVSU to Introduce Local Children to Foreign Cultures

Five area grade schools will participate in the annual “Passport to the World” Wednesday, April 15 at Saginaw Valley State University. Three schools from Saginaw Public Schools – Jessie Loomis, Kempton, and Zilwaukee – and two parochial schools from Reese – Trinity Lutheran and St. Elizabeth's will participate in this year’s event, put on by SVSU's English Language Program.

SVSU secures DEQ grant to study Bad Axe Creek

Saginaw Valley State University has been awarded a $61,449 grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to monitor the Bad Axe Creek in Huron County for phosphorus and E. coli over the next two years. The research also will help determine the concentration and potential sources of contamination there.

SVSU program to improve literacy, writing education at regional K-12 schools

Teachers from three K-12 school districts this year will receive professional development from Saginaw Valley State University faculty in literacy and writing across the curriculum. The news comes after SVSU secured a $220,000 Michigan Department of Education grant for the one-year program, which kicks off in August.

SVSU Students Teach Kids to Draw Comics

A group of Saginaw Valley State University students, the SVSU Comic Strippers, will conduct two free workshops on drawing comics for youth ages 8-16. The first workshop will take place Saturday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at Zauel Library, 3100 N. Center Road in Saginaw Township. The second workshop is Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at Butman Fish Library, 1716 Hancock Street in Saginaw.

The Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy will present an Osprey Award to the group Friends of Frankenlust Township Park, which includes Marty Arford, associate professor of geography at Saginaw Valley State University, and SVSU student volunteers.
