SVSU Interprofessional Education

ipec header
“Interprofessional education occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. Once students understand how to work interprofessionally, they are ready to enter the workplace as a member of the collaborative practice team. This is a key step in moving health systems from fragmentation to a position of strength.”

In the college of SVSU Health and Human Services, emphasis is placed on interprofessional education to prepare students for collaborative practice. We find value in developing learning activities that engage our students in a collaborative approach to care while keeping the person or population served at the center. Our role as educators is to create a safe learning environment, facilitate the interprofessional interaction, and debrief on the experiences as they apply to professional practice. The overall goal is to create a culture of effective communication and teamwork that will positively influence the quality of care in the populations and communities we serve.
