Individuals seeking certification at the elementary level can choose from one of the following options:
Option 1: a major in Integrated Science (41 crs.), Language Arts (36 crs.), Mathematics (35 crs), or Social Studies (40-41 crs.) and a planned program that includes other content area courses, including the arts.
Opton 2: This option includes a comprehensive major of select content courses in Integrated Science, Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and the arts along with a specialty area chosen from Early Childhood Education (30 crs.), World Languages (English as a Second Language (21 crs), French (23 crs), Spanish (23 crs.), and K-12 Special Education (Autism Spectrum Disorder (42 crs.) or Cognitive Impairment (32 crs.).
In addition to completing course requirements in Option 1 or Option 2, program candidates will also complete a professional studies sequence over a period of three semesters and student teaching during the fourth semester. Individuals seeking Special Education will have an additional semester of student teaching. Courses taken as an undergraduate may be applicable to option 1 and 2 major coursework requirements.
