MTTC Tests Required for Elementary Level Teacher Certification

Elementary Education - It is strongly recommended that the MTTC test in Elementary Education be taken during the semester of student teaching but not any earlier than the end of the third semester of professional studies. Elementary Special Education majors should take the elementary test upon successful completion of third semester studies and the successful completion of advanced methods in the declared endorsement area.

Elementary Education Majors - It is strongly recommended that the MTTC test in the elementary education major declared be taken when all coursework requirements for the major are complete or during the semester of student teaching.

Subject Area Minors - Teacher candidates who want to teach in one or both of their subject area minors in grades 6-8 must successfully complete the MTTC in their subject area minor(s). It is highly recommended that the test(s) be taken upon successful completion of all courses required for the minor(s). Early Childhood majors should see their faculty adviser before registering for the MTTC Early Childhood test.

MTTC ON-LINE
Online registration for the MTTC is available at www.mttc.nesinc.com. Please refer to the MTTC website for additional information on location of test(s), preparing for the test(s), what to expect the day of the test(s), test objectives, and requesting alternative testing arrangements.

MTTC content area tests are offered in a paper-based and computer-based format throughout the year. Teacher candidates will receive a score report approximately one month after the test has been taken. It is important that the teacher candidate maintain the original copy of their score report in a secure file for easy access. If the score report is misplaced, teacher candidates will have to request a new copy from National Evaluation Systems, Inc. which administers the test.

REPORTING SCORES TO SVSU
MTTC test results must be submitted to SVSU electronically; select institution code #24 when registering to take the test to ensure that SVSU receives the test results.
