Flutist, pianist to perform classical music during SVSU recital
On Friday, Oct. 27, Saginaw Valley State University will showcase the talents of two musicians with experience performing in venues across the nation. The recital, taking place at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall, is free and open to the public.

SVSU announces 2017 Homecoming king, queen and court
Saginaw Valley State University students elected Mikaela Ashton, a senior management major from Grayling; and Mitchell Kennedy, a senior accounting major from Bad Axe, as the university's 2017 Homecoming queen and king. Ashton and Kennedy were crowned Saturday, Oct. 14 during the halftime festivities at SVSU's football game against Ferris State University.

Detroit author wins SVSU literature award
Saginaw Valley State University has awarded the 2017-18 Stuart D. and Vernice M. Gross Award for Literature to author Drew Philp for his book, "A $500 House in Detroit: Rebuilding an Abandoned Home and an American City. The award is part of SVSU’s community-minded commitment to recognize exceptional writing within Michigan.

SVSU study shows blight removal a significant factor in Saginaw’s drop in crime
Armed with federal funds, crews demolished 884 vacant homes in the city of Saginaw from 2013 to 2015. Two Saginaw Valley State University professors say those demolitions are directly linked to a significant reduction of serious crime in the city.
