Michelle Randall earned her B.A. in Humanities and Fine Arts magna cum laude from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1996, and her M.A. in Art History from the University of Chicago in 1998. While in Chicago she assisted the Curator of Earlier Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago in Provenance Research, and cleared the gaps for over 300 Italian and French drawings in the Art Institute’s collection. She has taught courses in the History and Technique of Old Master Drawings at the School of the Art Institute, where she also taught courses in High Renaissance and Mannerism. She became a Ph.D. candidate in 2004 at the University of Chicago, has traveled extensively in Italy, and held an internship at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, a Modern Art Museum in Venice, Italy. She also was the Assistant to the Curator at the U.S. Pavilion at the Biennale in Venice in 1997, where she worked closely with Robert Colescott. Her current interests include the role of the Samurai and the influence of the garden in 19th-century Japanese prints, Venetian architecture, the Classical tradition in Italian Renaissance Art, and Shotokan karate.
