Serving as ambassadors for visiting prospective students. The Art Department is looking for student volunteers to serve as ambassadors to visiting high school students. This involves meeting with visiting prospective students and their families, giving tours of the department, and helping at University recruitment events. Volunteers give us a schedule of times that work best for them and the time commitment is minimal, but it is very important work. If you are interested in helping, please email Dr. Emily Kelley edkelley@svsu.edu Student Advisement
Serving as mentors to incoming freshman or transfer students for next year.
In both cases, the time commitment is typically less than an hour per week (with a little more on weeks with events and much less many other weeks). This type of service work is a good resume builder.
Interested volunteers or those who want more info should email Dr. Emily Kelley: edkelly@svsu.edu
The art department is looking for volunteers to serve as mentors to new freshman art department majors starting next fall. If you are interested in serving as a mentor, please contact Dr. Emily Kelley (edkelley@svsu.edu) or Professor Shaun Bangert ( sbangert@svsu.edu ) to have your name added to our list of volunteers.
Mentors main task would be to help their freshman mentee acclimate to the SVSU campus and become better acquainted with the department. There will be a couple of organized events for mentors and mentees during the fall semester, but we will also encourage you to meet with your mentee on an individual basis.
The SVSU art department and the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum have partnered to provide an Artist-in-Residence program. For more information contact the Marshall Fredericks Sculpture Museum (989) 964-7096, Email: mfsm@svsu.edu.
