Katie Klaczkiewicz is Miss Great Lakes Bay and a 2022 SVSU alum. She graduated with a degree in Social Work and works with teenagers at Westlund Guidance Clinic. She loves her job and is passionate about children’s mental health. She even organizes an annual walk to benefit counselors in local elementary to make sure the children get the resources they need.
Life at SVSU
Katie's passion for social work and helping others was ignited during her high school years, leading her to pursue a degree in the field at Saginaw Valley State University. The university's strong reputation, proximity to her home, and her mother's alumni status made it the perfect choice for Katie. She was pleasantly surprised by the wealth of opportunities available at SVSU, both academically and extracurricularly.
Under the guidance of inspiring professors like Dr. Michael Heron, Katie thrived in SVSU's social work program. Heron's engaging teaching style made learning enjoyable and set her on a path to success in her field. Katie also found community and camaraderie as a member of the SVSU dance team and through participating in intramural soccer.
Life Beyond SVSU
After graduating from SVSU, Katie brought her skills and passion to the Westlund Guidance Clinic, where she works with children, adults, and families to provide comprehensive mental health services source. Although she initially envisioned herself working with younger children, Katie has found immense fulfillment in her work with teenagers at the clinic.
In addition to her career in social work, Katie has been an active participant in the Miss America Organization since she was 10 years old. This experience has fostered her growth, provided invaluable scholarships, and given her a platform to make a positive impact. As the current Miss Great Lakes Bay, Katie will compete for the Miss Michigan title later this year. She loves the friends that she has made through pageants and the growth that she has experienced. You put a lot of work into each pageant, and it is fun to look back and see how much she has grown throughout the years.
Katie's commitment to philanthropy shines through in her annual Children's Mental Health Awareness Walk. All proceeds from the event support counseling services in elementary schools, reflecting her dedication to the well-being of young people.
