August 2024
Kate Stewart is a 2024 graduate who currently works as a software developer at Auto Owners. She had a unique experience at SVSU through her involvement in Forever Red. Through this organization, she engaged with alumni, participated in professional conferences, and attended events such as the Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner.
Life at SVSU
After touring SVSU, Kate knew she wanted to go because she loved the campus and its layout. She also knew she wanted to study math, and once at SVSU, she decided to major in applied math with minors in actuarial science and computer science. She enjoyed the classes at SVSU because her professors, particularly Garry Johns and Curtis Grosse, not only made the content engaging but also saw her as a whole person and helped her become a leader.
Kate was very active on campus, particularly in Forever Red. She was on the board for two years and was President for her senior year. She loved getting to know other students and alumni through the organization. Her favorite memory at SVSU was when Forever Red participated in the 2024 Homecoming Lip Sync Battle. Forever Red gave her a unique journey at SVSU because she was able to participate in events that most students do not get the chance to, like attending a professional Alumni Relations conference and attending the Distinguished Alumni Award Dinner.
SVSU inspired Kate by helping her overcome different challenges with the support of her friends, professors, and others on campus. Since others helped her so much on campus, she has always tried to pay it forward and is looking forward to continuing to do so.
Life Beyond SVSU
Kate has been a Software Developer at Auto Owners for two years, including her first two summer internships. She has worked full-time since graduating in May 2024 and loves the culture there. She has always felt welcome and is excited to start her career!
When she is not working, she plays pickleball and spends time with her family. She is also excited to see how Forever Red will continue to grow and cannot wait to support the club as an alumni.
