2024 Distinguished Alum for College of Education

Dr. Georgina E. Wilson, Ed.D. (SVSU 98', 01') is a transformative educator and leader who has spent over two decades dedicated to public education. Throughout her career, Dr. Wilson has embodied servant leadership, working to uplift students, educators, and communities. Her approach is collaborative, empathetic, and purpose-driven, always focused on meeting the needs of those she serves and fostering environments of belonging, empowerment, and love.

Currently, Dr. Wilson serves as an Assistant Professor at Central Michigan University, where she also directs the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Specialist in General Administration programs. Her teaching is informed by her extensive experience as an administrator and leader in PK-12 education, where she held key leadership roles at Windover High School and in Carrollton Public Schools. Her research focuses on trauma-informed practices, social justice leadership, and inclusive teaching and extends to her involvement in several national and international educational organizations.

A trusted advisor, Dr. Wilson chairs and serves on numerous dissertation committees, guiding doctoral candidates in their research and helping them develop into leaders who will shape the future of education.

Dr. Wilson's leadership in PK-12 education was marked by her ability to drive strategic initiatives focused on student success, from overseeing the development of positive behavior interventions and socio-emotional learning strategies to securing grants that brought critical resources to the schools and communities she served.

At the heart of Dr. Wilson's work is her unwavering commitment to service, demonstrated through her extensive volunteerism in the community where she and her husband, Shawn Wilson, Ed.D (SVSU, '01), have lived for over 20 years while raising their two children, Georgia, 17, and Shawn Jr., 15. She currently serves as a trustee for the United Way of Midland County, the West Midland Family Center, and the Midland County Education Service Agency's Board of Education. Dr. Wilson's dedication to fostering culturally responsive and inclusive communities is reflected through her involvement in the Access to Community Committee and the Cultural Awareness Coalition, both initiatives of the Midland Area Community Foundation. Her contributions to both her field and her community have been recognized with accolades, including the Dr. Diane Newby Award for Inclusive Excellence from Central Michigan University and the Woman of Achievement Social Justice and Advocacy Honoree from the YWCA of the Great Lakes Bay Region.
