Eric’s journey began in Zilwalkee, leading him seamlessly to Delta and eventually SVSU, where he earned his English degree in 1996. With a passion for working with children, he stepped into the world of Youth Programming at the YMCA shortly after college. Engaging with kids across various YMCA locations in the Great Lakes Bay Region, he thrived on creating enjoyable programs that sparked joy and learning.
After his time at the YMCA, a new chapter opened for Eric at Hartley Education Center, where he took on the role of Director for 11 years. Hartley specializes in outdoor education programs, and under Eric’s guidance, the center expanded its offerings and established valuable partnerships. One significant achievement during his tenure was the renovation of dorms, allowing even more children to experience the magic of overnight camps.
In addition to his work at Hartley, Eric's involvement with the Saginaw Community Foundation spans over a decade. He played a pivotal role in bringing the Great Lakes Bay Miracle League Field to life—an accessible baseball field that welcomes players of all abilities. This ambitious project took two years of collaboration, resource gathering, and community support, and it stands as one of Eric’s most fulfilling achievements. The success of the Miracle League Field and the ongoing partnerships with the Loons and SVSU continue to inspire him.
Recently, Eric has stepped into the role of Chief Operating Officer at the Saginaw Community Foundation. Eager to dive into the organization’s mission, he looks forward to advocating for the community and championing ongoing projects. It’s clear that his passion for the region runs deep.
Throughout his career, Eric has maintained strong connections with SVSU. As a member of the Alumni Board of Directors and a Gerstacker Fellow, he remains deeply invested in the university's growth and evolution. Watching SVSU thrive has been a source of pride, and he is grateful to play a part in its journey. Eric's passion for service and community-building exemplifies the spirit of SVSU alumni making a difference—all inspired by their time at the university.
