Alyssa Bouchard, a proud graduate of SVSU, was honored as one of Genesee County's 40 Under 40 in 2024. In her role as the Vice President of Communications at the Michigan Bankers Association, Alyssa thrives on the challenges her position brings. Outside of her professional life, she's dedicated to her daughter's softball league and has recently joined the Swartz Creek School Board, highlighting her commitment to the community.
Life at SVSU
Reflecting on her time at SVSU, Alyssa dove into her communications studies with enthusiasm. She found her classes to be not only informative but also inspiring, particularly those led by Professor Jennifer McCullough and Professor Melissa Hobart. Their encouragement motivated her to excel, especially in her Business Communications class, which she deems pivotal in connecting her academic experience to her current career. For current students, Alyssa offers this nugget of wisdom: embrace challenging opportunities. She recalls the intense experience of delivering a 30-minute presentation, which pushed her beyond her comfort zone. Overcoming that challenge has become a source of pride, highlighting the importance of resilience and support from faculty.
Beyond her classes, the camaraderie within her Communications cohort made a lasting impact. If she ever missed a lecture, she knew she could count on her classmates to reach out and share notes, ensuring she stayed connected. Alyssa also participated in Communications Pods, a club focused on helping non-native English speakers enhance their skills. Many of the friendships formed during that time continue to thrive today.
Life Beyond SVSU
Now, as the VP of Communications for the Michigan Bankers Association, Alyssa is able to weave her creativity into her work, particularly through her role as the editor of the MBA Magazine, mbaBanking. Being named one of Genesee County’s 40 Under 40 is a testament to her hard work and dedication, and she views it as a rewarding acknowledgment of her professional achievements.
When she's not in the office, Alyssa is dedicated to fostering a better community for her daughter. Balancing work and motherhood, she cherishes the time spent being present in her daughter's life while also taking on leadership roles like President of the Swartz Creek Little League for Girls Softball. Her recent election to the Swartz Creek Community School Board of Education in 2024 marks another significant step in her commitment to creating a positive environment for students. Growing up with two teachers instilled in her a passion for education, and she is excited to contribute to shaping a thriving future for the schools.
Alyssa’s story is a shining example of how SVSU alumni can make a difference in their communities while pursuing their passions. Her journey encourages others to stay connected, embrace challenges, and use their education as a launchpad for impactful careers.
