Tyner Prizes/Tyner-Roethke Award in Student Poetry

The Tyner Prizes and the Tyner-Roethke Award in Student Poetry recognize the best writing produced in English Department courses over the previous academic year. Three prizes of at least $100 each and a plaque may be awarded in three categories: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Papers/works written for a class in English since Winter Semester 2023 are eligible for the 2024 award.

It is customary for fiction writers to submit a single short story and essayists to submit a single essay. Poets, on the other hand, are encouraged to submit a brief collection. No entry, regardless of category, should exceed 25 pages.

A panel of three judges will read anonymous submissions and make determinations. Judges' decisions will be announced at the Writing Awards Reception.

The deadline for all submissions is Friday, March 15, 2024.
