Good writing has the power to help us understand different viewpoints and experiences far removed from ourselves. As technology continues to change the world, more of our learning and interactions take the form of writing. Writing in academic settings fosters learning for students, learning about the process as well as the product.

The University Writing Committee includes faculty from all five colleges across the university committed to promoting excellence in writing and writing instruction. This committee sponsors a number of events, including the National Day on Writing and a yearly Teaching Table, along with the Innovative Writing in Teaching Award and the Ruth and Ted Braun Awards for Writing Excellence for students in a variety of different disciplines.
