SVSU Board Identifies Finalists in Presidential Search

The Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control has reviewed and accepted the recommendations of its previously appointed Presidential Search Advisory Committee and will move forward with plans to interview four finalists for the position of president. The decision was the only action taken during a special meeting of the Board Friday, Jan. 10.

"I want to express profound gratitude to the members of the search committee," said Board chair Jeff Martin. "Their service to the Board and SVSU has been invaluable. As a result of their extremely thorough and professional work, we have four highly qualified candidates for the Board to evaluate and ultimately determine who among them will be the fourth president of SVSU."

The finalists are expected to participate in on-campus interviews during the week of January 27. They are:

•    Donald Bachand, who currently serves as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at SVSU. He joined the SVSU criminal justice faculty in 1978 and previously served as dean of the College of Arts and Behavioral Sciences. Bachand completed a bachelor's degree at Mercy College of Detroit, a master's degree at the University of Detroit and a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan.
