Congratulations to colleague Brooks Byam, professor of mechanical engineering, who last week received the Carroll Smith Mentor’s Cup from the Society of Automotive Engineers. This is the top honor given to faculty who advise college formula racing programs, and only one recipient is selected each year. Our own Cardinal Formula Racing students fared well again this year, placing 2nd in the world in acceleration. Battery problems prevented another top-20 finish, but our overall finish of 51 still places us in the top half of international college racing programs.
Best wishes to our 12 student-athletes who will compete at the NCAA Division II track and field championships in Pueblo, Colo. this week. This is an impressive showing from our men’s and women’s programs, and these student-athletes perform well in the classroom, too. These dozen carry a combined cumulative GPA of 3.32. more »
