Ageless Grace: 21 Simple Exercises for Lifelong Comfort and Ease (210/211)
The twenty-one tools, or exercises, of Ageless Grace focus on healthy longevity of body, mind, emotions and spirit. They can be done by almost anyone of any age or ability. The movements are designed to be practiced in a chair for ten minutes per day to music you love. Each of the tools focuses on a different anti-aging strategy based on the results of research in neuroplasticity and gerontology. This includes joint mobility, spinal flexibility, right-left brain coordination, cognitive function, balance, etc. The class will be led by Nichole Bartel, a certified Ageless Grace Educator. The class maximum is 15.

Don’t put it off any longer. Here is your chance to begin a strength training program with the support of an SVSU trainer in a fun, group atmosphere. Regular strength training can reduce your percentage of body fat, increase your amount of muscle, and increase body density. Each session will meet twice a week for six weeks to help you make weight training a regular part of your routine. You will use light weights and receive a program using a variety of machines. Your trainer is Maxwell Petit, a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who holds a degree in exercise science from SVSU. No class will be held on February 12, and April 9 due to OLLI monthly meetings.

If you participated in a past OLLI Qigong & Tai Chi class, or have taken Tai Chi elsewhere, this class is for you. We will assume that you are familiar with some basic warm-up exercises and the beginning sequences of the classic Yang style form. Get ready to burn some calories and have fun! Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements which create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system. It integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, interval, and resistance training to maximize calories burned, cardio benefits, and total body toning. It’s easy to learn and this class is specially designed for those over 50. Our instructor is Sylvia Milan, a certified Zumba instructor.

In a fun and safe environment, this workshop will teach you how to transform your fear into a source of power and strength. You’ll learn awareness skills that will enable you to detect a potential threat before it occurs. You will practice simple and effective strikes to vulnerable areas on an attacker’s body, and learn how to set verbal boundaries by using the power of your voice. The workshop will be led by Craig & Laura Sira, owners of The Academy Martial Arts and Fitness in Midland. Wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes.
