  • HEIDI
    This is the main login page for the State of Michigan's Higher Education data collection center.  If you know the password you can go right in.
  • IPEDS
    This is the main web site for the Federal Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).  Here you can log in to the data collection site, research universities via their College Opportunities On-Line (COOL) Site (designed for college students), and the IPEDS Peer Analysis System for researching and comparison of like institutions.
  • Common Data Set Initiative
    The Common Data Set (CDS) initiative is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student's transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers.

Institutional Research

  • The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
    The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching contains the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. According to the 2000 version of the Classification, SVSU is now classified as a Master's Colleges and Universities I institution.
  • Association for Institutional Research (AIR)
    The Association for Institutional Research (AIR) is dedicated to professional growth of all who participate in decision making related to higher education via management research, policy analysis and planning. AIR members work in many different postsecondary areas--finance, academic affairs, instruction, student services and institutional development--and in offices at the international, state, system or campus levels.

  • Michigan Association for Institutional Research
    The Michigan Association for Institutional Research (MI/AIR) is a state affiliate of the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), a national organization dedicated to the profession of institutional research.

  • National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES)
    Part of the U.S. Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data that are related to education in the United States and other nations.
  • Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)
    The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), established as the core postsecondary education data collection program for NCES, is a system of surveys designed to collect data from all primary providers of postsecondary education. The IPEDS system is built around a series of interrelated surveys to collect institution-level data in such areas as enrollments, program completions, faculty, staff, and finances.

  • Michigan Information Center (MIC)
    The Michigan Information Center (MIC) is a unit within the Department of Management and Budget. MIC provides user consultation regarding data availability and applicability as well as training activities for its Michigan State Data Center/Business and Industry Data Center (SDC/BIDC) statewide affiliate network. Although MIC focuses primarily on Michigan data, it receives and archives census data for the region, other states, and the nation.

Higher Education

  • The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
    Andrew Carnegie founded The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in 1905, "to do all things necessary to encourage, uphold and dignify the profession of teaching." The Foundation is the only advanced study center for teachers in the world and the third oldest foundation in the nation. A small group of distinguished scholars conducts the Foundation's research activities. 
    The Carnegie Foundation is also the home of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. According to the 2000 version of the Classification, Saginaw Valley State University is now classified as a Master's Colleges and Universities I institution.
  • College Board
    The College Board is another of what we call popular data sources. Its web site gives information about and lists statistical tables from two College Board surveys --- the Annual Survey of Colleges, 1997-98 and Trends in Student Aid: 1987 to 1997. The site also allows you to view the Common Data Set questions and to join the Common Data Set Discussion Group.

    Well maintained site. Includes access to government reports and the Occupational Outlook Handbook On-Line.
  • Public Agenda Online
    Public Agenda Online: The inside source for public opinion and policy analysis.The site has a large amount of information on public opinion. If you're looking for stats on how Americans feel about a variety of issues, you should definitely bookmark this site.
  • The Library of Congress
    Library of Congress LC offers a wide variety of online databases and Internet resources. It provides an easy-to-use gateway for searching other institutions' online catalogs and extensive links to resources on the Internet. You may want to see the LC Research Tools section of the home page, especially THOMAS, which provides full-text access to bills and resolutions under consideration in the current Congress and the two previous Congresses. 
  • American Fact Finder (Census Data)
    Website contains data obtained from several different censuses and can be searched by city, county, state, town or zip code.  Data includes but is not limited to: population, age, race, employment, income, and education.
