The English language requirement for undergraduate admission is based on either an acceptable English proficiency test score per the table below or successful completion of SVSU's English Language Program.
Prospective graduate students must meet the minimum language requirement for their program prior to admission.

Students without an English proficiency score (TOEFL or IELTS) or with a score below the minimum requirement may be admitted to the English Language Program or conditionally admitted to an undergraduate degree program. Upon successful completion of English requirements, those students conditionally admitted can begin their undergraduate degree program. Students interested in conditional admission should choose “Both ELP and Degree Program” on the first page of the application.
Conditional Admission is not available for applicants to our graduate programs.
Saginaw Valley State University reserves the right to require in-house testing for students with noticeable discrepancies between official test scores and demonstrated skills.
