At SVSU, classroom learning is only part of a student's education. Experiencing real life situations; sharing knowledge, leadership and skills; and demonstrating technical competencies are part of what it means to meet the expectations of a medical laboratory scientist. These experiences are further supplemented through clinical placements, student clubs and organizations, and more, giving our students an advantage before they enter the workplace.
Each year, the SVSU MLS senior class attends the annual conference of the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science-Michigan. Educational sessions throughout the three day conference help further prepare them for the BOC MLS certification exam. Additionally, students network with laboratory professionals, vendors, and students from all over the State of Michigan. In 2013, fifteen students attended the conference, and received financial support from the SVSU Foundation Resource Grant Program to attend the conference.
